Personal Statement – explaining why you want a career in this specialty and what sub-speciaty interests you have? What attributes do you have that make you feel suitable? How have you shown commitment? And any other information to support your application?

Please remember you will also need to give the name and address of two referees and you will be required to approach these referees prior to interview.

Interviews

When invited for interview you will be asked to book an interview slot, there are usually 4 choices of times available. You must allow 2 1/2 hours for the whole interview process (this includes total interview time of 40 mins plus prep time and paperwork admin).

When you arrive for your interview you are asked to report to the reception desk and shown to the waiting area where there will be a timetable for the interviews for you to look at and staff will be waiting to process your paperwork prior to your interview.  Hard copies of your references, each signed by the referee, must be brought to your interview together with your portfolio (please see Deanery website for the exact paperwork to bring to your interview).  The standard structured reference form which you will need to ask your referees to complete can be found on the Deanery website.

Interviews consist of 4 stations with 10 minutes preparation time before each station. The stations normally consist of clinical scenario, teaching/communication, clinical judgement and portfolio. The stations are not able to overrun so it is important to make as much use of the available time as possible by answering questions succinctly and effectively.

Once you have finished your interview there is a sign-out desk to go to where you will be asked to complete an evaluation form and a rotation preference form.

Offers will  be made following the interviews and applicants will have 48 hours to accept or decline this offer.  Once an offer has been accepted then you are expected to withdraw from any further interviews that you may have been offered.
