There are about six PFSDs a year. These are organised by the senior trainees for post fellowship trainees. Each hospital within the rotation takes it in turn to organise the study days.
You need to start thinking about dates, venue and subject of the day at least three months beforehand. Your college tutor knows the month in which their particular hospital is responsible for organising a PFSD. This information is distributed at the School Board meeting in September. Plan the study day for any date within the month, but AVOID Fridays because it clashes with pre-fellowship and primary teaching programmes. Wednesdays are a good day because all flexible trainees work on a Wednesday, but avoid the first Wednesday of the month, which is changeover day.
When the date of the study day has been arranged email Julie Flowers, School Support Manager, and she will put the date on the website together with the programme (if available).
At least one month before the date inform:
2. Trainee Representative (Chris Thompson). He will distribute the information to trainees of:
o The exact date of your study day
o The title of your study day
o A detailed programme, when available
o Detail of the venue
If you invite outside speakers, then it is professional to pay at least their expenses. Obviously, if the meeting is going to incur costs, then you will need to make plans to raise the funds. Drug reps are a good source of money, but you need to think about how they can advertise their product, and include this opportunity in the meeting.
Please send copies of any feedback (or a summary) as appropriate to the Education Lead after the event.
